What are your suggestions for making an svg map using USA zip code boundaries?

  1. I'm accustomed to working with an .svg of the U.S. and doing visualizations in Illustrator that way, but a new project I am working on requires mapping zip codes in the NY region, and I've never experimented with mapping and GIS much before.

If needed, I could find someone with a GIS system to whip up the map, but I'd much rather do it myself. I am limited to an OS X system, but I'm very interested in the various online mapping start-ups that have come out lately. I've looked into some of them, but I haven't yet seen SVG export capabilities.

So how would you do it? Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  2. I would suggest you check out indiemapper

  3. I'd go with a similar approach that was done with counties:

You'd have to find an SVG map with zip code boundaries though. A quick Googley search didn't get me anywhere.
