Supermarket Packaging Trends ?

Started 1 year ago by 222fbj / 4 posts

  1. Reducing the amount of product in a package seems to be a long time tradition with Supermarket items. For example - I'm not sure when a 'half gallon' of ice cream container started to hold less than 2 quarts but that's the kind of visualization I'd like to find.

Anyone know of data/visualizations for this - Perhaps for just a few common products (ice cream, cereal, etc.)?

    thanks

  2. I haven't seen one, but that'd be interesting. I might have to look into that.

  3. Supermarkets are typically supplied by the distribution centers of their parent companies.they usually offer products at low prices by reducing their economic margins.

  4. @22fbj - Just as some friendly advice if you decide to pursue this project... With rising costs an increased focus on being competitive to maintain marketshare, ice cream manufacturers had a decision to make: increase prices or get clever with packaging. I'll let you be the judge of who chose to do what. As a hint, be sure to include Blue Bell as one of the manufacturers to stand out as an outlier in your project.

Let me know how the project turns out. I'd be interested to see a visualization on this. :)
