I've been working on an app for making timelines - I thought I'd post it up here in case it's the kind of thing that you might find useful.
It's in a very fluid state at the moment, so any feedback it much appreciated.

Nice, but why does the cursor turn into a crosshair when moving over a time period? It doesn't seem to do anything...

@jwtulp - Yeah, I was wondering that, too.

Good point... that's because if you are editing then you can drag it about, but obviously shouldn't do that in view mode.

Thanks! There are quite a few different aspects to improve, and obviously it works best if I doing the stuff that people most want, so requests are very welcome...
