Online Charting Tools (Excel Alternatives)

  1. I'm sick of using awful excel charts in my presentations...Are there any services out there that let you just paste in some data and get decent looking charts out?

Something along the lines of this:

  2. Maybe you can try the chart tamer from Microcharts to clean up your excel charts. Great product.

  3. Not exactly cut and paste, but the richCharts look a lot like fusioncharts: http://fusioncharts.com

  4. Just taken a look at RichChart live. From their gallery, this is one to avoid. 3D effect, shiny surfaces and distracting background (to name a few poor effects) .... unless of course you want something for the company brochure to impress (ho, ho) rather than inform!

  5. ... and just to be fair and even handed :-) here's a 'cracker' from the fusioncharts.com gallery. The 'percentage of total hits' line appears on the front face of the bars but this would make January's percentage over 100% as the scale is on the back face. Hmmm. Can anyone read off values for each month?

  6. and now for some reason, i'm reminded of M.C. escher :)

  7. Flex/Flash based pivot table and charts - Flexmonster. We recentely integrated it with our online pm tool, looks and works great!

  8. This is probably off topic, but I've been very impressed with ggplot2 and plyr. I wrote a brief post about it at http://notestoself.posterous.com/ggplot2-plyr-and-yourflowingdata. Not quite excel, but ggplot2 sure makes pretty charts!
