New Carbon Visualisation site

Started 2 years ago by adamnieman / 1 post

  1. Hi fellow InfoGraphics / Visualisation People,

I've recently launched a web app that automatically visualises quantities of carbon dioxide.

    http://carbonquilt.org

One of the things that distinguishes this from other visualisation tools is that quantities are displayed as actual volumes rather than in charts. Users make sense of the values by relating them to their own bodies, homes, landmarks in their neighbourhood, etc.

Another distinguishing feature is the idea of the 'Carbon Quilt (TM)' which simultaneously gives a sense of the relative contribution to global emissions and the absolute quantity and works on any scale from continental emissions to a single lightbulb.

The app. is a prototype. The aim (if we find some money to develop it) is to make the API public so any site that needs visualisation services can get them. Visualisations will be embeddable as well, and could be linked to live data sources.

I would be very keen to hear what you think of the prototype, its potential, what improvements you would make, what new features you'd like to see, how you would use it.
