Do you believe, in a freshman-year kind of way, that design just might save the world? Do you design things that are as elegant and efficient as they are beautiful? Do you get excited about working in a space with a 50-foot whiteboard?
Totally. We do too.
Our company is successful because we care about design. Sure, we care about how things look, but what's really important to us is the clear and clever communication of ideas and information. We love digging into complex and messy problems because it's our opportunity to tease a little order out of the chaos. We work with other designers, developers, engineers, financial analysts, and our clients to set new standards for information design. Our work gets billions of hits a day, so what you do here matters.
Exciting, right?
We have a design team of about 30 people, and our business is growing at 20% a year, so we need good people growing with us. Most designers choose to stay with us for around 5 years, but that's not stopping the ones that have been here more than 10. We're looking for designers who can create experiences and who value grid and hierarchy just as much as the artistic visual touches. We want people who get excited about building compelling visualizations to communicate a story buried under a thousand data points. We need designers who are equally at home with sketches, wireframes, and pixel-perfect prototypes. We're also very fond of people who can explain the ideas behind their work with both confidence and humility.
We know it's a lot, but it's worth it.
This might be your kind of place if you...
• think design lies in the intentionally imperfect union of form and function.
• can tell us a story through numbers alone. Or chopsticks for that matter.
• discovered Tufte and realized you weren't alone in your obsession.
Oh, and us? How nice of you to ask. We...
• don't love cubicles. Or walls of any sort, really.
• blush when clients call us data geeks, or tell us we're detail obsessed.
• are equally fascinated by Radiolab and Planet Money.
• even have a blog to share the stuff we like: formation.wallst.com
On top of the good stuff like competitive salaries, health insurance, and 401k, there's…
• getting paid to bike, bus or carpool to work.
• unlimited chocolate. Yes, it can get a bit Wonka in here, more Wilder than Depp though.
• professional massage therapy as a thank-you.
So if you think you'd be a good fit here, send us…
• your résumé. We need to see how well you color inside the lines.
• a selection of your work that you think we'd like. Coloring outside the lines is encouraged.
• a link to your favorite data visualization and 140 characters on what makes it cool.
• apply to jobs.fld@wallst.com
