Freeware Tools

  1. Hello friends -

I've absolutely done my best to convince my bumbling overlords to purchase me a license for Tableau. It doesn't matter how beautiful a creation I can construct during an evaluation phase, or through Tab. Public and then screenshotted out. Curiously, they are simultaneoulsy hellbent on a performance management dashboard that gives people easy to understand views of data. They are impenetrable.

That being said, what are my best options for freeware that can come close to the functionality that Tableau provides? I'm an OK programmer, but very low on the Stats knowledge set; I'll jump into R if someone tells me it is my best bet, but I'm hoping someone else has something else. I've played around with Google Charts, and it has some capabilities; but I know that ten minutes with Tableau can construct something that will take me days of coding to get classes ready for in Charts, and it will still be uglier.

    Any insight is appreciated.

    brian

  2. I've faced the same issue - and am still stuck with the Excel that the 'bumbling overlords' (haha, love that phrase) provide.

But it doesn't have the interactivity Tableau has.
