Dorling Algorithm Cartogram

  1. Does anyone know of any software to produce editable Dorling Cartograms, specifically something that can be manipulated in a vector editing program. If there is such a program, I would love to have it. This is the style of cartogram I am looking to replicate: Carbon emissions graphic .

  2. I'm not sure this is quite what you're looking for, but it looks like Protovis creates Dorling Cartograms:

  3. I have seen that, but what specifically I am looking for is something that generates a static, editable PDF, Illustrator, or other vector file for high-res use.

  4. might have to go custom with R or Processing for that.

  5. I know the Geoda program produces Dorling Cartograms (which can be saved as a bmp file), but its Graphics are not very impressive.

R has to have a library to produce Cartograms.

  6. or maybe indiemapper...

  7. I've used SPMAP in Stata to make cartograms in the past. You can export to postscript, so that might work.
