  1. We are looking for an outstanding Data Scientist who is excited to have his/her contributions play out on a huge stage. You would play a big part in transforming public sector human services by helping us take our Casebook™ case management system from pilot to platform, enabling case workers to use modern social networking technologies to track cases better, see the connections among the various people and agencies involved cases, be more effective and efficient, and improve the quality of life for families and children. As a Data Scientist, you would focus on helping frontline teams, agency executives and researchers visualize and interact with data to understand what works, make decisions based on evidence and improve human services practice.

    As a founding member of our Analytics team, you will help lead the movement to apply web 2.0, social media and analytics technologies to solving human services problems. Beyond working with the dedicated Case Commons staff, you will partner and pair with one of the best Rails development companies around to develop Casebook.™

    Job Description

    • Title: Data Scientist, reporting to the Director of Analytics & Research
    • Collaborating with Analytics product managers, developers and designers in building Analytics applications, including performance dashboards and tools for exploratory data visualization and analysis
    • Data modeling and munging (transformation, cleansing, conditioning and sampling) for Analytics applications
    • Designing and testing calculation logic and visualization methods for key metrics
    • Designing and testing predictive and other statistical models
    • Working in partnership with Pivotal Labs and IDEO
    • Occasional work-related travel

    Requirements:

    • A passion for Analytics, for helping users discover and share the stories and meaning in their data
    • Experience applying a broad range of statistical concepts and methods, including predictive techniques
    • >1 years of experience in research/evaluation or creating data-driven visual narratives, ideally in the social/health sciences
    • Experience in applied longitudinal data analysis a plus
    • Development experience with any of the following a plus:
    – Ruby, Java, Scala, Python, SQL, MDX, olap4j
    – HTML5, CSS, JavaScript
    – Open source Business intelligence environments, such as Pentaho
    – Analytic databases, such as VectorWise or Infobright
    – Data visualization libraries, such as Protovis
    • Exposure to and interest in:
    – 'NoSQL' architectures and tools
    – Text analytics
    – Social network analytics
    • Ability to:
    – Work productively and solve problems with an in-office and remote team of mixed backgrounds
    – Thrive in a fun and fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
