  1. I have posted a review of Tableau 6 at http://www.freakalytics.com/blog/J5

Tableau has been an innovator in many ways. With Tableau 6, they have improved the entire analytic process with exceptional access to a wide range of data sources, incredible query speed using their new extract engine, intuitive workflow, beautiful visuals based on best practices (think Stephen Few and Tufte) and powerful dashboard capabilities.

If you want to learn more about Tableau, you can download an evaluation copy of Tableau Desktop or you can use Tableau Public. With Tableau Public, you can easily share vizes and dashboards that can be embedded on your web site, totally free and hosted by Tableau. Here is a summary of Tableau products and their varied purposes, http://www.freakalytics.com/2010/08/10/download-links-for-tableau-software/

Note that Tableau 6 is just entering Beta and should be released in late 2010.

  2. I doubt that traditional, digital dashboard software is dead. There are numerous pros and cons to dashboard SaaS.

  3. As a follow-up to this, what I am seeing as far as BI trends for 2011 are:

    - BI in the cloud
    - BI via SaaS
    - And incorporating social media trends analysis into a business intelligence strategy.
