Alternative for Illustrator's graphs?

Started 10 months ago by Datum / 3 posts

  1. I know people can use Inkscape instead of Illustrator to polish up vector graphics. However, I see a lot of people using Illustrator's built in graph creator, something Inkscape doesn't have.

I'm not a a professional graphic designer, I just like visualizing data as a hobby right now so there is no way I'm going to spend hundreds of dollars on Adobe Illustrator.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what to use to easily create vector graphs, which can then be imported into Inkscape?

  2. @Datum – Anything that saves as a PDF, you can open up in Inkscape and edit element-by-element. I personally use R.

  3. You're right, I just created a chart in OpenOffice, saved it as PDF and modified it in Inkscape. Sounds like I'll be able to follow along better in your book without having to have Illustrator... Thanks!
