it might just be because i was a little too close to the graphic on a large, high-resolution monitor, but the colors to differentiate rows made my eyes bounce back and forth a lot. but maybe that's just me :P

Thanks for the feedback. Part of the reason for the lack of context is that this was part of a larger presentation in which the information was discussed at length, this was just meant as a way to show them the same information, not in an ugly spreadsheet (kind of like the whole drawing the moth to the flame thing).

The reason for alternating the text was when it was all on one side it looked like a paragraph, and it just didn't sit right with me.

Those of you who asked about the "weight" of the colors -- they hold no meaning, just so people can differentiate rows quicker. I agree a better way of doing it would have to been to only color the outliers (like a sound system).

Nathan, the 45 degree angle idea is a good one, I thought of that, only a little too late and the deadline was staring me in the face.

To Tim, the blurred words do have meaning, but nothing significant. Even without the blur, i would be surprised if any of it was familiar.

I like the idea of turning it 90 degrees, for readabilities sake. Also keep in mind this was a 40 inch plus poster on a wall during a presentation meeting. It was more eye candy than anything.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I really appreciate it.

not sure what it is but it's pretty :)

I'd suggest a Title in the top left, with a little blurb under it, telling what the key points are.

Because the blue bars go downward, I tend to think of them as "negative" or "bad performance", when perhaps they are more a direct comparison between contributor and owner.
Also because the colors get lighter the further away from the middle, I tend to think the measurement is dissipating, so bars close the the middle seem to carry more weight.

I don't know if any of that is the intention, it is just how my mind fills in the blanks when I first looked at it.

I like the idea of turning it 90 degrees. and I would consider putting it into two columns side by side, one for owner and one for contributor. Then both charts would go in the same direction.

Does it make sense to rank the bars in each stage or do they follow some logical ordering (like dates or steps in a process or something) - I can't tell cos of the blur.

Cheers,
Tim

And why do the labels alternate from side to side? It seems like it would take up a lot less space if they were all on one side. And maybe you'd want to think about rotating the whole thing 90 degrees so the bulk of the text would be easier to read.

looks nice. it's a little hard to tell what we're looking at though... like does color variation mean anything other than contributor vs owner? i wonder if mono-colored bars might help with clarity since the grids already provide some separation.

i'm also wondering if putting the blurred text at a 45-degree angle might make it a little easier to read?

in any case, looking good for your first :)

I've just made my first real infographic and wanted to know what you guys thought. Any feedback advice would be nice. I've included the data set I had to work with as well, though a lot of things have been blurred out or replaced with "?" due to restrictions.

It went through several versions, in the end I was quite inspired by the look of an equalizer on a stereo, so that's the look I was aiming for.

well enough talk, here are the links:
