i haven't looked at the code in a while, but i think you'll have to add a field in the Markers constructor to modify color. From there, add some logic in the main Walmarts.as file to change the color.

Hey
I am trying to work on a adaptation to the Walmart/Target/Ross Store Visualization, I have location data and want to show location trends where the color of the datapoint indicates a good/bad trend. I am needing some pointers how to make the color of the marker dynamic based on a field in the xml data, the field can be either a value or the actual hex color needed.

Anybody got any ideas??

I had thought it would be as easy to conditionally process the value entered as brightGreen in walmarts.as but then realized that isnt been used and the color is hardcoded into the Markers.as

I'm kinda learning as I go so any pointers appreciated, I guess somewhere I need to add a loop to the data...

Thanks Guys

We've just introduced an animation bar in v.6.1 to allow you to play a time series sequence in exactly this way.
So you could deliver something very similar (with other features too) using InstantAtlas (http://www.instantatlas.com).

Hi,

I have a data set of foreclosures in WI for the last several years with date and geo coordinates. I'd like to create a map like the Walmart and Target store openings. Like this:
http://projects.flowingdata.com/walmart/

How do I go about doing this?

@Colin:
You're on the right way. All you need to do is to create a new .fla file and then set the document class (in the properties panel) to the .as file provided by nathan.

Hope this helps, if not let me know, I'll post an example .fla for you.

*Edit: If you want to start with ModestMaps I have to recommend the base application I created for the use of ModestMaps. There's a .fla file included that uses the above mentioned method. Feel free to download it here: http://portfolio.artillery.ch/downloads/mm-construct

Hmm, I haven't had much experience using Flash, but I think you have to create a movieClip(?) and then put the actionscript in there. Sorry, I'm really just taking a shot in the dark.

Personally, I did it all in Flex Builder 3, which is free for students: https://freeriatools.adobe.com/flex/

I am really interested in this and adapting it for my own use, I can understand the actionscript files well enough that I think with some trial and error I can get it to work. However, I have no idea how to use these in Flash Professional (the program I have to do this). My guess is that I need an .fla file to call in the actionscript files. Does anyone have an example or suggestions on how to start with this?
thanks
